This is how our story began..
Yes, that’s correct, on March 08, 2011, we have made our first ever piped Sunflower cupcake using a ziploc bag improvise in our search for a nice and inexpensive Mother’s day present for our 2 “second-mums”. We strongly believe that it was the ladybug on this cuppy that bit us and got us addicted so we never stopped since.
(So just a little warning as this bug might bite you too)
Today, we will share to you how to do it.
What you will need:
3 ziploc bags, cello tape, scissors, cupcakes, buttercream in 2 separate bowls, spoons, Oreo cookies (or any dark coloured cookie), yellow, orange and green food colouring paste, toothpicks and red candies (or gummy gems, choco buttons, Smarties, etc.)
Step 1:
Tint your buttercream to make Yellow-Orange and Green. IMPORTANT: Do NOT ever re-use toothpick when tinting your buttercream. We use Sugarflair brand.
Step 2:
Reinforce the corner of the ziploc bag by putting several layers of cello tape to make it stiffer then cut a small triangle.Fill your bag with buttercream.
Step 3:
Squeeze a small amount of buttercream in the middle of the cupcake then put your Oreo.
Step 4:
Starting from the base of the cookie (with the point of the triangle pointing upwards), follow this technique.. Squeeeeeze (yes that’s a long squeeze while slowly pulling bag away) then quickly pull. Just don’t forget to stop squeezing when you pull ok
We put 3 layers of petals and then of course the leaves.
Step 5:
With your remaining green buttercream, put some more green food colouring paste or better use black if you have it. Put inside another ziploc bag then cut a tiny hole. Put your red candy on top of your cupcake and make a ladybug
This is optional but it looks so cute so I’m sure you will do it too
So there you go! Another easy to do project using simple materials. I’m sure kids would love to do this as well.
